Not the Time to Laugh

As Cape Cod Turns - 3 hours 3 sec ago
Why is it that when you are in a place(let's say funeral) you get the urge to laugh? Why do the funniest things need to happen in a place where you shouldn't enjoy them? For all you over 40, you may remember the Mary Tyler Moore show and this particular Chuckle's Funeral episode. About 3 minutes, Mary starts to lose it.... Yesterday, I was in one of those instances, where laughing was NOT a good idea. However, the man singing behind me was very loud and unfortunately very tone deaf. I do not...

Extreme Relay on the Cape

Bob's Outer Cape Cod - 9 hours 47 min ago
On May 1st and 2nd there is a relay race from Quincy to P-Town that is definitely not for the casual runner. The race is 202.7 miles and will be run as 36 legs, with teams of 6 or 12 runners, with each runner doing approximately 33 or 17 miles each, respectively. The event runs 'straight' through the night. Brutal! And, there are over 250 teams signed up.

Read about his relay in "the Day" e-newspaper of New London, CT. The race will run through Eastham on the Cape Cod Rail Trail (aka the bike path) except to a 'break' onto Nauset Rd for the end of a leg. Check out the relay at http://www.13relay.com/.

When An Innkeeper Makes Exception to the Rule

Wellfleet Chezsven - 10 hours 29 min ago
What an amazing day! We spent many hours outside, cleaning our Studio so Sven can move over as soon as the weather improves substantially. I am afraid the warm weather was just a tease, that winter will soon return. Ho-hum. Reservations certainly started off slow this year. We have a real sense that people are feeling the recession. Lots of requests for one night, which we don't do. A woman

"I love the place; the magnificent books; I require books as I require air."

Keep the Coffee Coming - 11 hours 45 min ago
Earlier was my library board meeting. We have meetings on the second Tuesdays of very month. My library is small, almost tiny. It is in the former home of a sea captain and is an historical building. The front of it has a gingerbread design, and its colors are blue and white. Any renovations to the building need to be reviewed and approved by the historical commission. The last time was for the new roof. We struggle for funds. Every year we have a fund raiser, and the board spends an afternoon...

9 March 1956 “A Rant: Are We Happy With the Way Things Are?”

50s Times - 13 hours 57 min ago
I was thinking the other day of the glaring differences in shopping in 1956 and in 2010. How, on the community scale, we are so affected by our current trend, nay infrastructure, of the huge box stores. A friend of mine who works in a sort of chain store was telling me about her set up. How they have some new fixtures coming in to be built. I asked if they would hire a local carpenter or how it was going to really happen. She said, “No, it will all come in and be put up by...
