3 September 1956 “Called on account of Hurricane”

50s Times - Fri, 09/03/2010 - 21:40
As many of you may know, Hurricane Earl is charging its way into 1956. Odd, certainly, for a modern day storm to do so, but it has found its way into my time machine and therefore we are busy with oil lamps, bags of ice and preparation of possible power outages. So, if I suddenly disappear for a few days, it is because we are without power (and we have no generator) so don’t worry. I shall be back as soon as possible to daily posts. Here is part of my post last year (1955) about Hurricane...

Frag'n Friday

As Cape Cod Turns - Fri, 09/03/2010 - 19:47
4 quick fragmented thoughts to keep you busy on a Friday.... 1. Mrs. 4444's actually called ME this morning to make sure I was all ready for the big storm. How sweet is that??? 2. A man came to look at the leak in my roof an hour before the hurricane is about to begin and tells me the leaking in my ceiling is...

Surprising Dog and Cat Facts

Veterinary Assoc of Cape Cod - Fri, 09/03/2010 - 17:28
Myth: Warm Nose, Sick Dog The temperature of a dog's nose changes easily and is not a good sign of illness. It can be hot and dry after lying in the sun or cool and wet from dipping into the water bowl. Better signs of illness are lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, coughing, or a fever higher than 102.5°F on a rectal thermometer. The wet snout? It comes from tear ducts that drain toward the nose. Fact: Dogs Can Smell Diabetes It sounds like a Lassie TV episode, but it's truth, not fiction....

The truth about the nitrogen loading law suit; we’ve been had by Klimmboobs, the Cape Cod Commission, pseudo-experts and do-gooder tree huggers...

Citizens for Open Government - Fri, 09/03/2010 - 13:19
I’m not a lawyer, not even close. My law education consists of the time I spent watching each of the 271 episodes of Perry Mason at least three times. But I do know this; "When someone threatens to...

24 Hours to Earl

Churbuck.com - Fri, 09/03/2010 - 02:38
Today was a ballbuster – starting with the purchase of a new chainsaw, two gallons of gas, some files,  more flashlight batteries. But otherwise a sunny, hot day, finding me glued to the National Weather Service for the 8 am advisory, then out to the big boat for one last round of worrying and fiddling. [...]
